Delegates
Delegates are a vital part of our union. For many university staff, delegates are the most visible part of the NTEU and their first point of contact with the Union. Delegates build the strength of the Union in their local workplace. They organise meetings, help recruit new members, encourage other members to become active, and advocate on behalf of their members.
Because of the important role you play, we want to ensure our delegates and activists feel trained, confident and supported in their union work—which is why we've created the following resources for you.
Training for delegates
We've put together a number of sessions to help support delegates in their union role. Introductory sessions on Talking Union and Building Union are held regularly in the NSW Division Office in Surry Hills.
- Talking Union—this session provides frameworks for talking to members about becoming more active in the Union, as well as for handling objections from non-members during the recruitment process.
- Building Union—this session examines ways of identifying workplace issues to organise around, encouraging members to be active in the workplace, and planning to win.
If you would like to attend delegate training, email nsw@nteu.org.au to register your interest. Can't get to Sydney? Speak to your local Branch Office about scheduling training at your institution.
