La Trobe management hindering consultations
Management is consistently tabling long and complex documents either shortly before, or during, various consultation meetings with your NTEU representatives.
For example:
1) After repeated requests we received a copy of the 19 page review report on the Workload Management System an hour before a meeting with senior management, only to be told that they intended to send it out to staff while we were in the meeting in what they called 'concurrent release';
2) We received a 54 page organisational change impact statement midway through the first consultation meeting on the Humanities and Social Sciences cuts, and the meeting finished less than an hour before staff were briefed about the restructure;
3) We provided management with questions a week in advance of a consultation meeting about the Humanities and Social Sciences cuts. Management tabled their answers at the the start of the meeting leaving us with no time to read the 8 pages of densely typed text.
In addition, the monthly Consultative Committee meetings with the Union have become unnecessarily adversarial and unproductive.
This behaviour is unprofessional, calls into question the genuiness of consultations with the Union and is likely to be a deliberate tactic to make it difficult to represent members' interests. We will inform members if this continues to happen.
