Funding Cuts - rally and postcard signing
Hundreds of protestors in Hobart and Launceston yesterday called for the restoration of the latest $2.3bn cuts to university and student funding.
The protests, organised by the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) and the Tasmanian University Union with support from the National Union of Students and the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations as part of national action in all capital cities and some regional centres, urged Federal MPs to follow the lead of the Greens and independent MP Andrew Wilkie and vote against the enabling legislation for the cuts.

EBA Update - UTAS Industrial Action Ballot
Industrial action over a collective agreement at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) is one step closer following the decision of the Tasmanian Division Council of the National Tertiary Education Union to undertake a protected action ballot.
Over the past 5 months we have been negotiating with UTAS representatives to implement a new staff agreement which will provide certainty for staff in these uncertain times.

We have arranged meetings across the campuses to discuss the lack of a wage offer, provide a comprehensive update for members about the proposed reduction in conditions for the EBA, outline the progress to date, and to provide an opportunity for members to ask questions.

Academic and Professional Staff Workloads Clause
“Do they want an ongoing sustainable institution or workload models – which is more important?”
This was the statement put to us by UTAS at the last negotiation in response to our query about whether University management believed that Academic Workloads should be protected in the agreement.
