Audit of Higher Education
The NTEU National Office is undertaking an audit of higher education in Australia as directed by National Council 2000. The aim of the audit is to develop a coherent, `compendium database of quantitative and qualitative information, some of which can be updated over time; in order to:
- inform the development of appropriate and realisable policies for Australian higher education
- inform our ongoing political and lobbying campaigns, with particular reference to influencing the policies of major parties in the run-up to the next Federal election
- raise public consciousness more generally regarding current conditions in higher education
- assist branches and divisions in the conduct of local campaigns, through collection of locally-relevant data and case-studies
- map the diversity of Australian higher education
- produce a progress report to be presented to the 2000 Council meeting and a final report to be launched in the first half of 2001.
The first phase of the NTEU Audit of Higher Education has revealed very concerning historical and international comparisons, highlighting the need for substantial reinvestment in universities.
