University Governance
Good governance of tertiary education institutions is essential to high quality education, research and scholarship. But what makes good governance?
Good governance is not about representation of interest groups, nor about the relationship between educational institutions, industry and the broader community. It is about ensuring that the public interest in our tertiary education institutions is underwritten by democratic principles and a culture of free inquiry. As universities and TAFE colleges become more commercialized and active in the global market, getting governance right becomes even more important.
