National Research Staff Conference
National Office is organising a major conference for research staff members to be held on the 19th and 20th June 2004, in Melbourne. The Union is committed to providing wider and more effective support for research staff across the research community, including in Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), Research Institutes, and Universities. We want to hear from you about how the Union can improve its public policy advocacy, its industrial servicing, and its membership presence within the research community.
The conference will cover a number of key themes:
- Career development and employment rights in collaborative research ventures
- Universities and research institutes partners or competitors?
- Making my name as a researcher perspectives from young researchers
- Who should own (and profit) from research discoveries the originator, institutions, or industry?
- Government changes to research funding
- Building a Union presence in research institutions.
The Union is keen to have a broad spread of research staff in attendance, representing academic and general staff from Universities, Research Institutes, and CRCs. If you are interested in attending, please send a short statement about why you would like to come, and attach a CV with your contact details. We are hoping to fund around 50 members from across the country, with the selection being undertaken by the NTEU Research Committee. Send your expression of interest to Emma Cull (ecull@nteu.org.au).
