Workloads and Occupational Stress

Over the past two decades there have been major reductions in the funding of public universities in Australia, and reports of stress in university staff due to increased work pressure and reduced social support have escalated. However, in order to attract and retain high quality staff, universities must provide staff with a supportive working environment. Significant increases in public funding to the sector in the 2009 Federal Budget offer universities and opportunity to change this trend.
