Regional Development
Education is essential for the development of regional Australia, yet people living outside the major metropolitan centres remain disadvantaged in terms of their access to quality and diversity in TAFE and higher education. Recent studies have shown that low socio-economic status and rurality combine to produce the greatest educational disadvantage.
At the same time, regional universities have taken the brunt of the Coalition Governments cuts to university funding and deregulation of higher education.
NTEU canvases these issues in our representations to Government, political parties and other agencies, with the objective of improving quality, diversity and accessibility of education in regional Australia.
