Melbourne School of Engineering includes behavioural measures as part of a PDF template.
Members in the School of Engineering recently contacted us after the School informed staff of a PDF template for professional staff that includes behavioural measures. This document was distributed to staff with a supervisory role.
In 2011 the NTEU indicated that behavioural measures/indicators were unacceptable in any changes to the performance framework. This rejection was the outcome of a review of the framework conducted between the NTEU and the University as part of the 2010 Collective Agreement, and reflected widespread opposition to the proposal from across the University community.
Concerned that the School of Engineering was acting outside of the outcome of that review, the NTEU contacted the University to raise with them that the School of Engineering appears to have put the University in a position of acting outside the agreement. We received advice from Human Resources that the PDF template was not an official document and was not meant for implementation. The NTEU is seeking clarification from the University about their intentions to include behavioural measures/indicators as part of the PDF, and we will update members on the outcome of those discussions.
In the meantime, if any other Schools/Faculties/Departments have released similar templates, members need to contact the NTEU immediately. If you have any concerns about this being implemented, please contact your branch organisers Corey and Bec on 8344 6828.
