ERA Watch website launch
Dear colleagues,
Please find below a hyperlink to the NTEU’s ERA Watch campaign website:
The recent demise of the ERA journal rankings was an important win for university staff. It was also a vindication of the Union’s advocacy, supported by our members. Minister Kim Carr, determined that ERA could not be held out as fair, equitable and transparent considering the kinds of harmful outcomes that had resulted from manipulation of the ERA journal rankings.
These changes do not signal an end to the issue. The potential misuse of ERA and related performance measures remains a concern for the 2012 exercise and beyond. This concern will be further accentuated as government explores ways to tie the 2012 ERA assessment to the allocation of research block funding such as the Sustainable Research Excellence (SRE) program and the Research Training Scheme (RTS).
The ERA Watch website is the Union’s platform for communicating, sharing, and building awareness about ERA. We would encourage members and non-members alike to visit the site.
With regards,
Jeannie

[ +1 ] Hmm sorry about that second paragraph - Why WOULD the University... etc. Don't answer that. I know why.
Like • Dislike •[ +1 ] Just to add to the list of semi- or un-related things that ERA or "research-active" status is being used to judge: at Macquarie one of the Faculties now has a policy that gives preference for rooms with external windows to "research-active" staff. What next? Tattoos on the forehead?
Like • Dislike •Why the University would want to use a criterion that is ALREADY contentious as a measure of what it's MEANT to measure as a way of increasing division between staff? Appalling.
And this is a University that preaches "social inclusion" and celebration of diversity.
