   Stop Indigenous Staff Cuts at UTS

   4 jobs axed - Change plan for UTS Indigenous Staff

   The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has been supporting a number of long term Indigenous members who have been adversely impacted by a change plan that has been put in place at Jumbunna IHL, UTS.

   4 jobs are being axed in the change process, and the careers of highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous officers stand to be cut short.

   The UTS branch of the NTEU has lodged a dispute under the Indigenous Employment and Professional Development Clause (51) of the Support Staff Agreement 2010.

   <p>I am very concerned to hear about the restructure plans at Jumbunna IHL, which may result in 4 current Indigenous employees losing their jobs, or being placed in roles which are classified at a lower level/pay rate.</p> <p>The UTS Indigenous Education and Employment Policy (IEEP), launced with strong community support in 2011, outlined core commitments to the recruitment, retention and professional development of Indigenous staff.</p> <p>It is recognised in the policy that in developing and delivering Indigenous education and employment, UTS aims to: "achieve Indigenous staff rates that are reflective of the Indigenous working population, and Indigenous retention rates and levels of seniority which are commensurate with UTS non-Indigenous staff" (5.1 of IEEP). This policy is underpinned by the Indigenous Employment and Professional Development Clauses in the Enterprise Bargaining Agreements 2010.</p> <p>How can this change plan be reconciled with the commitments UTS has made to staff, students and the community?</p> <p>I ask you to seriously reconsider these job cuts, and do all you can to retain UTS Indigenous staff.</p> <p>Yours sincerely</p>
