Writing Themselves In 3, the third national study on the sexual health and wellbeing of same sex attracted and gender questioning young people in Australia was published by La Trobe University in 2010. The research uncovered alarmingly frequent and violent experiences of homophobia and transphobia in the lives of these young people, with 80 per cent of the abuse identified as happening while they were at school. The Victorian Department of Education made a formal commitment in 2008 to ‘Supporting Sexual Diversity in Schools’ in a position statement introduced by the then Minister of Education, Bronwyn
