DIISR Research Training Quality Consultation Paper release - submission due 28 Nov 2011

Posted 25 October 2011 by Jen T. Kwok (NTEU National Office)

The first of two research training quality consultation papers, Defining Quality for Research Training in Australia, has just been published on the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research website. Submissions are due 28 Nov 2011 and the department intends to hold public information sessions in the major capital cities.

The consultation paper is the initial phase in the review of the Research Training Scheme (RTS) foreshadowed in the research workforce strategy.  Responses to the consultation paper will provide a basis for the department to advise the Minister on the development of research training quality standards, which the Minister may refer to the higher education standards panel of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency. A second consultation paper will be released mid next year focussing specifically on the technical aspects of the RTS, including options for how the results of Excellence in Research for Australia can form part of the funding formula for the RTS.

The paper can be downloaded at the Department's dedicated Research Workforce page here.
