Research Policy Commitee
The Research Policy Committee comprises 10 members plus observers, and is elected from the membership by National Council every two years. It meets twice a year, once in conjunction with the Education Policy Committee. The Committee is due for re-election in 2010.
Terms of Reference

To represent within the NTEU the interests and views of members of members regarding research policy and other research-related issues, and to advise the Executive and National Office on these matters.

To monitor the effects of Federal and State government policies on the research capacity and activities of institutions, staff and students.

To develop and promote Union policy on all matters relating to the organisation, funding and management of research within tertiary institutions.

To represent the NTEU on research-related matters in member forums, and to Government and other organisations.

To advise the Executive and the National Office on strategies to further these policies, and assist in their implementation.

To actively promote the participation of members in the policy work of the NTEU, particularly in relation to research and research education.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research Policy Committee Members should be prepared to:

Participate in two full-day meetings of the Committee per year, and a one-day joint meeting with the Education Committee.

Represent to National Executive and National Office the views of members on matters relating to research and research education, based on their expertise, knowledge and their consultation with other members. Committee members should actively engage the views and ideas of other members wherever possible.

Provide information, advice and feedback to the National Office; including advice on submissions, feedback on written work, assistance in drafting policy, alerting National Office and branches and Divisions to members’ concerns.

Occasionally represent the NTEU in Union and other forums related to research.

Provide advice to the Enterprise Bargaining Forum on matters which should be the subject of negotiation.

Occasionally prepare written material on the work of the Research Committee for publication.

In conjunction with members of other policy committees, report on and actively promote the policy work of the NTEU at branch and division levels.
- Assist in the development of member networks on matters related to research and research education.
