Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs)
On 29 April 2005, the Federal Government released new Higher Education Workplace Relations Requirements (HEWRRs) for Australian higher education institutions.
As part of these IR Requirements, universities were required to offer Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs) to all university staff by 31 August 2006. Despite Federal Government rhetoric, there has been no requirement to ensure all staff, including new staff, have a right to the collective agreement.
