In nearly all areas of employment covered by the NTEU, the types of employment include:
Tenured/Continuing/Permanent: This is employment for an indefinite period, subject to retirement, redundancy, dismissal or resignation.
Fixed-Term: This is generally employment for a specific period of time to end on a fixed date.
Casual/Sessional: This is where the employee is paid by the hours worked.
Most employees (except casual staff) when first engaged, are employed on probation.
