Pending Closure of the Monash Glass Studio

Posted 4 July 2011 by John Pezy (Flinders University)

It is of great disappointment and frustration that Monash management through the Faculty of Art and Design are considering the closure of the Glass Studio in the Department of Fine Arts - due to cost-saving measures.

Monash Glass has been producing some of Australia's leading Glass Artists for over 30 years and is regarded internationally as one of the top training institutions in the Southern hemisphere. Monash has the only Tertiary Glass Studio offering courses in Victoria and it is the single most significant studio of its type in Australia. The pending closure will severely restrict 3-D Education choices for students seeking a Fine Arts Degree at Monash.

Monash is the largest University in Australian and aspires to be 'leading the way' across all disciplines in both teaching & research. Small disciplines, such as Glass, need to be supported and recognised for its unique value and the visual cultural contribution it has made and will continue to make for generations to come. Support Monash Glass by visiting the website and sign the petition - let Management know that 'quiet achievers' are worth saving.
