NTEU UNE Branch Climate actions
•    Make UniSuper much more eco-friendly & ethical
•    Support eco-friendly businesses in all union-related promotions &
interactions
•    Green bans on unsustainable products in any university projects eg
rainforest timber, old growth timber
 
NTEU ADVOCACY
Internal

Amend NTEU policy:
•    Climate change is current, not in the future, rapid transition from coal needed
•    Stronger advocacy
 
On Campus

•    Each area to have an environmental/sustainability officer
•    Reduced paper use, recycled paper
•    Local organic food, permaculture, café waste composting
•    Better transport eg electric bikes
•    Aboriginal land use agreements
•    Ethical investment by universities eg in Australian Ethical Investment
•    Better recycling and promotion thereofreduction of lawns, exotics, mowing and watering; replacement with natives: trees, shrubs, grasses
•    all new buildings solar-passive, solar powered, solar hot water, insulated, double glazed
•    universities switch to green power
•    Provide water coolers for all staff and students to reduce the use of bottled water on campus
•    Encourage usage of Fair Trade
 
Academic advocacy
•    Support sustainability teaching and research esp. in social sciences eg MEA
•    Reduce support for unsustainable industries: beef, coal
•    Subsidise education for climate change refugees
•    Challenge ³Infinite Growth² paradigm
 
Wider Advocacy
•    Remove subsidies to big polluters
•    Stop logging and woodchipping native forests
•    Support for sustainable industries & renewable energy and their job
creation potential
•    Opposition to nuclear power, uranium mining
•    Restrict and label GM foods
•    urge adoption of Melbourne Uni plan for national renewable energy system
•    support international environmental regulations and monitoring
•    End promotion of Shell by Questacon
•    Promote nonviolence as an alternative to militarism
