AMC
Welcome to the page dedicated to members and staff at AMC.
In September 2011, the VC attended a meeting of AMC staff and gave them assurances that everything was fine. Just 24 hours later, staff at the National Centre for Marine Conservation Resource Sustainability were notified that they would need to attend a meeting on Monday 26 September to “discuss the future of the Centre” (code words for restructure). Staff were told at the meeting that in 2013 they will be forced to move into the Faculty of Science Engineering and Technology (SET).
This proposed move into UTAS (SET) has the distinct potential to destabilise AMC’s research capabilities and affect its reputation in Marine Industry. The NTEU understands that UTAS will place restrictions on any new course offerings that contain the words “Marine” or similar words. The NTEU is concerned for the job security of our members and staff at AMC. We are equally concerned about the quality of education being delivered to marine students in Launceston. This is a big blow for AMC.
