UTAS staff vote for industrial action

HelloOn behalf of the EB team, I can inform you that the past week involved a further 2.5 days of negotiations with UTAS management and the other unions when relevant.UTAS management had already written to advise us that, although they recognised the importance of the issues identified in our proposed Heads of Agreement, they were not prepared to sign the document. -

What UTAS Wants (Managing Change)
It is a requirement under the Fair Work Act that the Enterprise Agreement contains a change management clause, but the Fair Work Act does not prescribe a minimum set of conditions for this area, it just makes recommendations about what the clause should say. The suggested clause from the University presents even fewer rights than the model clause under the Fair Work Act.

EBA negotiations commence
On 20 December, as the University was starting to wind down for the Christmas break, we met with UTAS management and one other union for the first formal bargaining discussion. The meeting was not before time, as nearly 6 months had passed since the expiry of the current staff agreements and our presentation of a log of claims to UTAS management.
