Workplace Bullying Forum

Posted 21 August 2012 by Kiraz Janicke (University of New South Wales)

Dear colleagues,

The NTEU UNSW branch is hosting a forum on workplace bullying on Thursday 23rd August CLB4 at 1pm.

We recognise bullying as a serious health and safety issue – victims can suffer sleeplessness, ill-health, family tension, loss of income and career detriments when they become a target of a bully or group of bullies. The results of our recent staff survey indicate a serious level of bullying here at UNSW – for some staff, being abused and receiving unfair treatment is a daily occurrence.

Raising awareness about the problem is the first step, we feel, to ending the silence about bullying in the workplace. Please take this opportunity to have your say.

Speakers will include Jeannie Rae, NTEU National President, who will focus on workplace bullying in the Australian tertiary sector. Sarah Gregson, our Branch President, will report on the situation at UNSW.

It’s important that we organise to protect ourselves and our colleagues from toxic workplace environments.
