One year after Management confirmed they wanted to sack staff at the University of Sydney, they are still treating us with disrespect.
Staff say enough is enough! In the end, because of our involvement and activity, management didn't get what they wanted with the job cuts. Together we can make them hear our ideas for a fair Agreement that treats staff with respect.
Michael Thomson, NTEU Sydney Uni Branch President, urges members to come to a meeting to discuss our current round of Enterprise Bargaining and its connection with the No Job Cuts Campaign.

Don't let management water down our conditions and make jobs at the University of Sydney less secure.
On June 04, 22 Academics and Emeriti sent an open letter to Her Excellency, Professor Marie Bashir, the Chancellor of the University of Sydney. In it they protest the job cuts at the University of Sydney, reminding the Chancellor of the damage this process has done both to staff and to the reputation of the University. They say, '[m]orale in many departments is extremely low because staff members are aware that valued colleagues have been unfairly targeted. Everyone knows that these staff were fully “pulling their weight,” and that what happened to them could have happened to any academic staff member....'
Their letter begins like this:
Your Excellency,
We, the undersigned, senior academic staff members and emeriti, write to appeal for your urgent intervention to prevent injustice to the twenty-three colleagues who received redundancy notices on Monday 7 May.
We consider that a profoundly unfair process of retrenchment has been implemented, with arbitrary and inequitable impact, and with grave damage both to staff morale and to the University’s public and professional reputation. We think that some of this damage can be counteracted, and some injustice rectified, but urgent action is required to do this.

The Redundancy Review Process
The University is currently issuing redundancy notices to staff identified through the change management process.
If you receive a Notice of Redundancy you should also receive a form that asks you to select one of three options:
Clause 283 in the Enterprise Agreement entitles a staff member who receives a Notice of redundancy to seek a review of the decision. You will have four weeks to decide your preferred option; in most cases this will mean making an election by 1 June 2012.
The NTEU encourages you to seek a Review and we will provide members advocacy support through the
The University of Sydney Senate meets next on Monday, May 07. This is also the day that University management will be issuing redundancy notices.
The NTEU will be joining USyd students in lobbying the Senate meeting and protesting the job cuts. There will be a short Rally in the Main Quad, followed by a march to the Senate meeting at the Darlington Centre.
Come along and let the Senate know that staff and students say No Job Cuts at Sydney Uni.
