NTEU thanks ANU students for support in campaign against staffing and budget cuts.

Posted 3 April 2012 by Jane Maze (ACT Division)

A General Assembly convened by ANU students yesterday unanimously passed a motion to support the NTEU in its campaign to protect ANU staff in the face of threatened staff and funding cuts. The Assembly also unanimously voted to organise further actions to protest these threats.

Several ANU Students Association (ANUSA) representatives warmly supported these motions at the Assembly. Today the President of ANUSA addressed a mass meeting of ANU NTEU members to pledge the Association's support for the Union's campaign against cuts for which no good case has been made.

The NTEU thanks ANUSA and ANU students for their support. Stephen Darwin, ACT Division Secretary said "These cuts threaten the quality and breadth of education that ANU can provide to students, as well as the workloads of ANU staff generally and the careers of many of them. It is important for us as staff and students to stand together for an ANU that is committed to the highest quality of education and research rather than to ticking the boxes on accounting benchmarks.'
