Abstract
This paper draws on the report by Deirdre McCann (Manchester University UK) and Jill Murray (La Trobe University) prepared for the International Labour Organisation as part of its preparations for the making of the Convention on Domestic Work adopted in July 2011. (Domestic work covers the work of servants, maids, nannies, chauffeurs and other undertaking paid work in the home.) The paper draws together thinking on working time regulation and non-standard work and advocates a 'framed flexibility' approach to working time in domestic work. It is argued that concepts advanced in relation domestic work play back into the productive development of working time regulation generally.
Assoc Prof Murray holds degrees in Law, Arts and Industrial Relations from Melbourne and Oxford Universities. She has published extensively on Australian and international employment law. In addition to her academic publications, Assoc Prof Murray has ensured the practical application of her knowledge through a range of consultancies and invited advisory positions.
