Adelaide Bluestocking Day

Posted 10 August 2012 by Katherine Gale (University of Adelaide)

On the 17th August 2012, the Adelaide University Union and the University of Adelaide Student Representative Council, will be holding ‘Blue Stockings Day’, from 11am-2pm at Hub Central. ‘Blue Stockings Day’, an initiative of the NTEU, is a day to recognise Women in Academia and Higher Education.

To celebrate how far women in academia have come, we are fortunate to have two prominent guest speakers from the field of higher education. Emeritus Professor Anne Edwards, formerly the Vice Chancellor of Flinders University, and a sitting member of numerous boards and councils, and Emeritus Professor Margaret Allen, a Professor in the field of Gender Studies and feminist historian, will be speaking from 12pm-1pm. In addition to these guest speakers, we will also have a number of women and study oriented stalls to provide information and answers to questions. There will also be live music, fairy floss and a raffle.

We welcome anyone to attend, and join us in recognising women in higher education!
