Consolidation of Commonwealth Anti-Discrimination Laws

Posted 3 February 2012 by Jeannie Rea (NTEU National Office)

The Commonwealth Government is intending to consolidate federal anti-discrimination laws at the national level (have a look at the Attorney General's website), with the purpose of exploring opportunities to improve the legislative framework that addresses discrimination.

As part of this consolidation project, the Government is delivering on its commitment to introduce new prohibitions on discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

In anticipation of the Exposure Draft, the NTEU has made an initial submission to outline a set of broad principles.the letter is attached below and was accompanied by the NTEU Indigenous Unit's 2011 'I'm not a Racist But' report.
