Indigenous Forum 2012
NTEU National Indigenous Forum 2012 will be held on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 2012. This year’s theme for Forum is ‘Bargaining – Activism & Outcomes’
As we complete Round 5 negotiations, NTEU now looks toward Round 6. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, negotiated outcomes in the previous round were high-quality; but through activism can be enhanced.
Indigenous Forum 2012 will have a focus upon activism and achieving greater outcomes for employment opportunities and entitlements. With a total of 23 Agreements due to expire on the 30th of June 2012 - for many Branches the time to review and develop a log of claims is now upon us.
Other topics for discussion at Forum will include an overview of the outcomes and recommendations from the ‘I’m Not a Racist, But...’ report, NTEU Elections, an overview and update on the implementation status of clauses from Round 5 and a discussion on issues facing Indigenous centres.
Indigenous Forum 2012 offers delegates the opportunity to provide input into the future development of Indigenous higher education policy and strategies in relation to Indigenous employment, student income support, research, teaching and social justice issues.
This year, Forum registrations will be online via a link to a page on the NTEU website. A memorandum with a link to the online registration will be circulated to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, Branches and Divisions this week.
