University staff take action to secure quality education outcomes
National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) members at five Victorian universities - University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University, RMIT University, Swinburne University and the University of Tasmania - will take industrial action tomorrow, Thursday 21 May.
NTEU members at the five universities and Hawthorn Learning will take part in a rally and 24 hr stoppage tomorrow in support their enterprise bargaining claim for manageable workloads, increased job security, a fair wages deal and other improvements to conditions that are expected to deliver quality education outcomes.
In separate ballots conducted recently across eight institutions - Hawthorn Learning and Melbourne, Monash, Deakin, RMIT, Swinburne, Victoria and La Trobe universities, more than 80 per cent supported an industrial campaign to secure new collective bargaining agreements. Tomorrow’s industrial action is the first stoppage in support of the bargaining claim after nearly 12 months of negotiations.
