Blue Stocking Week events across WA August 13-17

Curtin University

Monday August 13 - Friday August 17

  • Women in higher education Art Display, Curtin Student Guild Foyer. Students and staff of Curtin University are invited to participate in the display in the Curtin Guild foyer which will showcase a variety of art on women in higher education. Art will include paintings, short written pieces and photos.

Thursday August 16

  • Bake Sale for Charity, 12pm-2pm outside of Guild main entrance. Staff and students at the University can purchase baked goods for a small cost with all proceeds going to charity.

Friday August 17

  • Bluestocking Week March and Sundowner, 12pm, starting at Angazi Cafe. Staff and students are invited to attend the Blue Stocking March with women across the university decked out in blue stockings displaying portraits of inspirational woman in higher education. The march will conclude with an event at the University tavern with a guest speaker.

 

Edith Cowan University

  • Edith Cowan display in Joondalup campus building 32

Tuesday 14 August

  • Talk by Felicity Farrelly (President of Graduate Women WA) in Joondalup campus Library room 31.113 from 11am to 12.30pm

  • Bluestockings in the Library – displays at all campus libraries

South Street campus

Thursday 16 August
  • Utopia Girls, a documentary about how Australian women won the vote, screening at 12:30-1:30 in ECL1

  • Blue Stocking stall at Market Daze – bookmarks and badges! balloons and blue fairy floss!

  • Dancing the Revolution: 12:30-1: 30 in Bush Court – an hour of sounds presented by bluestockinged djs from RTRFM’s program Drastic on Plastic: Women in Music

 

Rockingham campus

Tuesday 14 August

  • Blue Morning Tea at 10.30am in the Rockingham Library foyer

Wednesday 15 August

  • Screening of Utopia Girls, a documentary about how Australian women won the vote, 12.00 –1.00, Rockingham Lecture Theatre 4

 

Peel campus

Wednesday 15 August

  • Blue Stocking morning tea at 11-11.30am
  • Screening of Arrietty for students, staff and their families; from 6:30pm til 9pm in Peel 101/1.004

 

University of Notre Dame Australia

Thursday 16 August

  • A boutique Blue Brunch 11am-1pm in the Fremantle Campus Staff Room (Fairweathers) in the old Fremantle Hotel, High Street, Fremantle

 

The University of Western Australia

Tuesday 14 August

  • Panel Discussion: Blue Stockings in the Cultural Precinct, 1pm, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. The Berndt Museum is presenting a panel discussion on the important role of women within the UWA Cultural Precinct. The panel will consist of Emeritus Professor Margaret Seares AO, Professor Sandy Toussaint and Curator Lee Kinsella.

Thursday 16 August

  • Blue Stockings above the 26th Parallel: a Hypothetical on Blue Stockings in a new university.  A study of achievement relative to opportunity. The panel: Professor Len Collard, Winthrop Professor Izan Izan, Holly Ransom, Kate Lamont, Julian Donaldson. 4.30pm at the University Club Auditorium.

Friday 17 August

  • Panel discussion: "Feminism ain't what it used to be…" featuring A/Prof Philippa Maddern, A/Prof Chantal Bourgoult Du Coudray, Zoe Bush and Laura Davis 12.15pm in the Woolnough Lecture Theatre
