NTEU urges CSU management to put the health and safety of staff first

Posted 15 February 2012 by Bonny Campbell (Charles Sturt University)

The NTEU CSU Branch has written to CSU management over concerns regarding the implementation of the new Workplace Safety legislation. The legislation came into effect on 1 January 2012, and requires the election of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) who are responsible for representing staff on matters of health and safety and who have powers under the Act to enforce Health and Safety obligations. Late last year CSU Management revealed their intention to limit HSRs to one per campus. The NTEU have written to CSU Management stating that this is insufficient. More representation is needed to properly comply with the Act and ensure the health and safety of staff.
