Negotiations continue for new health and safety structures at CSU
The NTEU CSU Branch are currently seeking member feedback about the latest proposal from management on the new work Health and Safety (WHS) structures at CSU. We believe that we are close to being able to recommend a WHS structure to members, but have a number of outstanding concerns.
NTEU want to ensure that there are enough trained HSRs to effectively represent staff. Management’s latest counter proposal is for more Deputy HSRs to be trained. However, Deputy HSRs can exercise the powers or perform the functions of a HSR under the Act only if the HSR is absent (see section 67 of the Act.) Given this, the NTEU’s strong preference is for trained HSR positions instead of deputy HSRs. We are also concerned that there is no acknowledgement that any HSR can request training (Section 72 of the Act)
