Protest and read-in at Melbourne Uni libraries today

Posted 2 August 2011 by Alex White (Vic Division)

Protest and read-in at ERC - 2 August 2011 Protest and read-in at ERC - 2 August 2011

Melbourne University plans to reduce library services for students and staff by cutting 13 positions at the Baillieu and ERC libraries down
to only 4.5!

This drastic reduction will have a serious impact on the service library patrons receive and will worsen the already dire state of the collections.

The excuse is that self-service machines make this necessary – but in reality the library is currently understaffed.

The real plan is to replace these permanent jobs with casual labour.

Come to the protest and read-in today at the Eastern Resource Centre (ERC) Library at 12:30-1:30pm today, Tuesday 2 August 2011.
