Workers' Compensation Cuts - Email your MP
You might have already heard that the changes to workers’ compensation have been hurried through the NSW parliament and passed into law, with exemptions for firefighters and paramedics. Barry O’Farrell claims that to fill a funding deficit he needs to make cuts to the duration, and availability, of workers’ compensation payments to workers who are currently injured, the partners of workers killed in workplace incidents, and to those claiming workers’ compensation in the future.
Meanwhile employers have enjoyed a 33% reductions in premiums to nominated workcover insurers since 2005 and the NSW government is creating the impression that a great number of workers are rorting the system, when only 32% of injured workers need 5 days or more off work.
