Exciting Bluestocking Week events in the ACT (13-17 August)
This year the NTEU and NUS are reviving and revamping Bluestocking Week (13-17 August), with great events across the country celebrating women in higher education.
These are the events that will be happening in the ACT. Please come and connect with your fellow women members to celebrate women's contributions to higher education and successful struggles for equity - pst and future!
ACT Free Film Night: Made in Dagenham
Tuesday 14th August, 8 pm. Coombs Lecture Theatre, ANU campus
'Made in Dagenham is a terrific film - moving, dramatic, funny and an absolute eye-opener to a piece of our history that it seems most of us don't know much about. It's the story of the women workers at a Ford factory in Dagenham who were the first ever in the world to win the right to equal pay with men - a precedent that inspired women's struggles for equal pay all around the world.' - Pam Roberts

ANU Bluestocking Breakfast - free
The original Bluestocking Circle was a group of eighteenth century English women who chose to break away from the conventions of female social occasions, which were usually focused on playing cards and polite chat, and instead to meet over breakfast for friendly intellectual discussions of more serious topics, primarily literature and the arts.
We are launching a series of breakfasts partly inspired by this idea, where women can meet in the Fellows Bar at ANU, share a friendly meal, and listen to short talks by women from the ANU community about their fields of research or expertise - with the brief being to speak accessibly and engagingly for a broad audience.
The first breakfast will be on Thursday 16th August at 7.45 for 8 am. To celebrate Bluestocking Week it will be free for women members. Spaces are limited so book early by emailing jmaze@nteu.org.au.
UC Bluestocking Drinks for women from 4.30 – 6.00 on Thursday 16th August at Retro Cafe, with free drinks and snacks for NTEU members. This is a great chance to meet other women members and perhaps share thoughts about UC from a women's perspective. Recently joined members are particularly warmly invited – we will make sure you are made welcome.

ACU Bluestocking Tea
All members at the Australian Catholic University are invited to share morning tea in the Blackfriars Fountain Garden at 10.30 on Wednesday 15th August. This will be followed at 11.15 by a meeting for women to discuss and suggest Enterprise Bargaining claims to improve equity for women (see below). All members are also welcome to attend this meeting.
Women's Caucuses – Enterprise Bargaining
Australian Catholic University: Wednesday 15th August 11.15-12.00 noon. Blackfriars Conference room. The ACU caucus will follow morning tea in the Blackfriars fountain garden at 10.30 am.
University of Canberra: Wednesday 15th August 12.30-1.30 pm. Lunch will be served. Room 7 B15.
Australian National University: Thursday 16 August 12.30-1.30 pm. Lunch will be served. Venue to be advised.
Bargaining is about to begin at all universities for new Enterprise Agreements. The Agreements are the sources of our key work conditions, including some which are important for ensuring equity for women at work.
For example, we will this year seek a clause to support people affected by domestic violence to act to solve the problem, for example by providing leave to attend counselling or legal interviews.
What else should we aim to achieve to assure equity for women in the next Enterprise Agreement? Women members are invited to meet with women NTEU representatives to share your thoughts.
