Getting into the Act - A Renewed Focus on Gender Equity in the Workplace

In the 2011 issue of Agenda, we reported on the Government’s Review of Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace (EOWW) Act, and the Equal Opportunity for Women Agency (EOWA). The purpose of the Review was to examine both the effectiveness and efficiency of the Act, and to consider practical ways of improving the equal opportunity framework. 

The recommendations of the Review were responded to by a consultative committee, known as the Implementation Advisory Group, who assisted Government in drafting new legislation on equal opportunity.

NTEU has been involved at all stages of the process, and we are very excited to see the new, substantially enhanced, gender equity legislation, now before Parliament.
